During a paddle on the lower Watauga River, I spotted this bluff that just needed a geocache. Do not attempt this cache if you have a fear of heights. Some rock climbing is involved. Once the repairs on Boone Dam are complete in three or five years, this will be a much easier cache to reach.
I'm providing a spoiler pic to show you where you should exit your boat and begin your climb. Once you have climbed up to the tree line, keep going. You will see a charred log, and just past it a another vertical rock face. The cache is clearly visible on a ledge about six feet up. Watch out for the sink hole between the log and the rock face.
So, why the subtitle on this cache? As I was climbing the rocks, I slid the toe of my right foot into a hole. Just as I started to shift my weight to that foot, I felt something vibrate against my shoe. I don't know if it was animal or reptile, but whatever it was, it wasn't happy. And, you guessed it, I screamed like a girl.
