Another peaceful, quiet, cemetery.
This area has an abundance of small, old cemeteries. The history that goes with them is fascinating. Don't confuse this one with the Mechanic St. Cemetery. This one was known in 1878 as the Cornell Cemetery. There are many gravestones here with the Cornell name & many with the Allen name. There is no sign & there is no obvious entrance. Stones in the north east corner might have been steps at one time. About 53 stones stand among swirly barked trees. Some of the stones amazingly date back to 1812, 1777 & 1746, for examples. Astoundingly for that time some of the people lived to be 86, 90 or even 91. Some, unfortunately, were very young - 7 months, 14 days... 1 year,9 months & 19 days... A little research helps to imagine what some of the people were like - a carpenter, a chair maker who used water power, a Justice of the Peace in 1856, & a farmer of 310 acres. Enjoy the solitude but please be respectful. No night caching. The cache is placed outside the cemetery. Swag to get the ball rolling, (including marbles), & a FTF coin. Happy trails.
