Recinto de Actividades Deportivas, Aire libre y Recreativas (R.A.D.A.R.)
Los terrenos de la antigua estación de Radio de la Armada Española, conocidos como Rádar, desde hace poco han pasado a ser un recinto lúdico y deportivo, un espacio recreativo al aire libre, donde las familias van a poder acudir a entrenar y a disfrutar de actividades de ocio. Se trata de más de 120.000 metros cuadrados de terreno que el Ayuntamiento de Torre-Pacheco ha adquirido a la Marina, y que estaban abandonados y desaprovechados. De este modo, se ha iniciado el proyecto del Recinto de Actividades Deportivas, Aire libre y Recreativas (R.A.D.A.R.). Curiosamente, se ha querido aprovechar, con estas siglas, el mismo nombre con el que los pachequeros ya conocían la zona.
Las negociaciones con el Ministerio de Defensa permitieron que estos los terrenos pasaran a manos del Ayuntamiento a un precio ventajoso, como compensación por los inconvenientes que, durante unos 50 años, ha supuesto la servidumbre militar para el crecimiento urbanístico en esa parte del casco urbano, en su salida hacia la pedanía de Balsicas; un espacio de interés, debido a la ubicación del polideportivo municipal.
El proyecto para el aprovechamiento de este patrimonio municipal ya se inició durante las pasadas fiestas patronales, en el el Ayuntamiento creó en parte de estos terrenos el Recinto de Peñas Festeras. Esto produjo gran satisfacción para las 50 peñas que conviven en la villa, que habían tenido que depender de que las condiciones atmosféricas fueran buenas, al estar ubicado el recinto en una rambl; y no era raro que ciertos actos festeros se tuvieran que suspender algunas veces por culpa de la lluvia. Posteriormente, las peñas se habían llegado a repartir por edificios, sin contar con las condiciones de seguridad adecuadas y pudiendo causar molestias a otros vecinos. Ahora, gracias a este proyecto, el Ayuntamiento ha acotado 20.000 metros cuadrados de la superficie total del R.A.D.A.R, construyendo 99 celdillas de 10 por 15 metros, para acoger a las 99 peñas a las que se ha llegado este año, espacio que estrenarán durante las fiestas patronales del Rosario. Y se contará también con una zona central para los espectáculos.
La creación de este nuevo Recinto de Peñas ha sido de gran satisfacción para el conjunto del pueblo, que ha visto como se ha podido ocupar un patrimonio de suelo que le correspondía. Y, además, se ha conseguido dar así una excelente solución a la ubicación de las peñas, ofreciéndole un recinto ordenado y seguro, totalmente desmontable. Como resultado de todas estas gestiones, se puede decir que, desde el año pasado, se disfruta en esta villa del Recinto de Peñas más grande de la Comarca.
En el futuro, está proyectado seguir ampliando este Recinto Festero, para dar cabida a nuevas solicitudes de peñas que quieren vivir las fiestas en unión y armonía con el resto de grupos. Entre las primeras actuaciones, también se encuentra habilitar una pista de atletismo en esta zona.
A pesar de que el abandono de los últimos años ha deteriorado los pabellones militares, los cimientos se encuentran en buen estado, y esto permitirá salvar las naves para uso público. En la construcción que queda en pie, de unos 30.000 metros cuadrados, donde en su día se ubicaron las oficinas, viviendas y pabellones de uso castrense, el Ayuntamiento quiere rehabilitar unas salas y habilitarlas para usos múltiples, para desarrollar actividades sociales y concentrar el grueso de conciertos y espectáculos públicos.
El Caché
Como reminiscencias del antiguo emplazamiento militar, aún podemos ver unas garitas, en los cuatro extremos de este recinto. No es necesario entrar en la garita para dar con el caché, pero seguro que necesitarás fijarte muy bien, ya que se encuentra perfectamente camuflado.

Sports, Outdoor and Recreational Activities (R.A.D.A.R.)
The grounds of the former Spanish Navy Radio Station, known as Radar, have recently become a sports venue, an outdoor recreational space, where families can go to train and enjoy leisure activities. These are more than 120,000 square meters of land that the City of Torre-Pacheco has acquired from the Navy, which were abandoned and wasted. Thus, the project of the Sports, Outdoor and Recreation Activities (R.A.D.A.R.) project has begun.
Curiously, with this acronym, it was wanted to take advantage of the same name with which the pachequeros (Torre Pacheco people) already know the area. Negotiations with the Ministry of Defense allowed these lands to pass to the City Council at an advantageous price, as compensation for the inconveniences that, for about 50 years, military servitude has meant for the urban growth in that part of urban zone, in its exit towards the pedantry of Balsicas; an area of interest, due to the location of the municipal sports center.
The project for the use of this municipal heritage was begun during the past Patron Saint festivities, when the City Hall prepared a part of these lands as a campus of the feast. This produced great satisfaction for the 50 Peñas (groups of people in the feast) who live in the village. Previously, they had to depend on the good weather conditions, as the site was located in a rambler; and it was not uncommon for certain festive acts to be suspended sometimes because of the rain. Subsequently, the Peñas had been distributed to buildings, without adequate security conditions and causing some discomfort to other neighbours. Now, thanks to this project, the City Council has bounded 20,000 square meters of the total area of RADAR, building 99 cells of 10 by 15 meters, to accommodate the 99 Peñas that have been reached this year, space which will premiere during the Patron Saint's feasts. And there you can count also with a central area for the spectacles.
The creation of this new enclosure has been of great satisfaction to the people as a whole, which has seen how to occupy a land patrimony which corresponded to people has been possible. And, in addition, it is an excellent solution to the location of the Peñas, offering an orderly and secure, completely removable enclosure. As a result of all these efforts, it is possible to say that, since the last year, it has been enjoyed in this town of the largest enclosure of the District of Peñas.
In the future, the project is focus on expanding this feast enclosure, to accommodate new requests for petitions that want to live the holidays in unison and harmony with the other groups. Among the first performances, there is also an athletics track in this area.
Although the abandonment of the last years has deteriorated the military wards, the foundations are in good condition, save the ships for public use. In the construction that is still standing, of about 30,000 square meters, where the offices, houses and pavilions of military use were located in its day, the City Council wants to rehabilitate some rooms and enable them for multiple uses, in order to develop social activities and concentrate the bulk of concerts and public performances.
The Caché
As reminiscences of the old military site, we can still see a few checkpoints, in the four ends of this enclosure. It is not necessary to enter the gate to find the cache, but surely you will need to look very well, since it is perfectly camouflaged.
