UNFICYP was originally set up by the Security Council in 1964 to prevent further fighting between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities.
The United Nations Battalion of Finland served in Cyprus from 1964 to 1977. Over 10 000 Finns participated in the operation.
Finnish volunteers wanting to Cyprus were taught for example left-handed traffic and english traffic signs.
And of course they also built a Finnish sauna in Cyprus.

You can park your car near the sign in the picture. No need to go closer the gate. Be careful with trafic.
