Thanksgiving Day 35 Letterbox Letterbox Hybrid

This cache has been archived.

sweet-marie: This cache is being constantly damaged so the time has come to archive it. It was replaced about three weeks ago and I decided to wait before enabling it but when I checked on it today it once again had been damaged. It was fun while it lasted and it is always sad to archive a cache with lots of favorite points.

Geocache Description:

This letterbox hybrid is NOT at the posted coordinates! A letterbox hybrid is a cache that is both a letterbox and a geocache. Simply follow the instructions in the long description to find the cache location. There is a stamp in the cache for people who collect letterbox stamps. This is not a trade item so please make sure you leave it in the cache container. PLEASE - DO NOT LOOK FOR THIS CACHE AFTER DARK!

This letterbox will take you into the North Delta Watershed Park, a heavily forested park covered in Douglas Fir, Western Hemlock and Western Red Cedar trees. The parkland also sits on top of an artesian water supply and measures over 375 acres. There are over 11 kilometres of wilderness trails, including hiking-only trails and shared trails with hiking, biking and horseback riding. Located along the trail routes are information billboards, bridges, trail signs and trail maps but it is still easy to get disoriented and lost among the trees. At this time there are numerous caches within the park including traditional, puzzles and two night caches.

To get to ground zero, go to the bench at the posted coordinates where you will have your choice of three different paths. Hmmm which one do you need to take? Starting with the path that the bench is on and going to your right you could try the little poem eeny meeny miny moe and choose the path at the second”moe.” If you have dogs with you please make sure that they are leashed and clean up after them or you could face a fine.

Continue down your chosen path about 50 steps and you should find yourself at an erratic nicely sliced in half. (If not you may have chosen the wrong path!) Continue down the path until you come to a “Y” and keep right – away from the little stumps and you will very quickly come to another “Y” with a tree in the center. Bear left where you will soon come upon a second erratic and an intersection with another trail.

Turn to your left and walk towards the pumphouse. Be careful not to trip over that fallen tree than partially covers the trail. Continue down this trail and use caution as you pass by an “X” and an upside down “T” as bikers could come zooming down in these areas. You will then come to a “T” where you will go to your right but you will have to leave your bikes and horses here as they are not allowed down this trail.

Continue down this new trail until you come to a tree growing in the middle of it at which time you need to keep left. Here you will see some very old trees and some very interesting root formations. Mother nature at her finest.

The GPSr can be very bouncy here so in order to find the cache you will need to find where old surrounds new and the fallen intersects the upright. You will need some agility here as you could easily slip and fall, never to be seen again. Please be very careful with the cache and return it exactly as found.

Please have fun with this cache.
