No, not Mortimer! Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

PYC: The cries from the 1993 movie, Free Willy, seem to have reverberated with an honored animated short film, as Mickey Mouse's character, Steamboat Willie, has finally been set free. In January of 2024, "Steamboat Willie" became public domain. Following this lead, we have decided to free Mickey (Willie) from his duties as guardian of this cache. Safe travels to all the animated and "live action" cachers out there.
This Mystery cache garnered 6 Fav points during its 6 year stint. Congrats to all 34 finders.

Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the posted coordinates.

We are placing this cache on the 89th anniversary of an animated short film that was first released on November 18, 1928.

This film is noteworthy because it was the first animated film to use synchronized sound, including character sounds and a musical score.

Also, this animated short is considered to be the debut of a certain popular cartoon character whose name was suggested by Lillian Bounds. Lillian persuaded the cartoon character's creator to use a less pompous name than Mortimer.
