Geocache Description:

Vajpoh

Vajpoh

Its original name is Wildbach, but the name of the indigenous people has been preserved.

The Wildbach Gorge was a part of the village of Koprivnik. At that time, there was a sawmill operating there. The first owners of the sawmill were the Roethel family from Koprivnik. Later, the Lušin family from Ljubljana successfully ran the sawmill for a few years, but the sawmill collapsed before World War II due to a tragic death in the family and bankruptcy. There were some buildings on the sawmill property where the sawmill worker families lived. The ruins of the sawmill, the layouts of the buildings, and the water intake of the stream remind us of those times. As the locals tell, many children from the village learned to swim in this intake.

Intake

Today, around the intake, you can see footprints of wild animals that come here to drink. It is not uncommon to see a deer or a deer family observing you silently from a safe distance among the trees.

There is also an interesting habitat of the beautiful lady's slipper (Cypripedium calceolus), which among all orchids growing in Slovenia boasts the largest flower. The first one to notice it was the priest Savelli, who served in Koprivnik during World War II.

Before the eviction of the Gottscheer, Vajpoh was a part of the village that had house numbers, sawmill and water intake. Today, the ruins of the steam sawmill and the abandoned intake silently remind us of the past.

Remains of the sawmill

There is no signal at the location, so we recommend that you save the treasure to your GPS device or phone in advance.
