Malaga Cove – a bit of the bight Traditional Cache

An uncrowded southern bit of the Santa Monica Bay

The cache is tucked away on part of the shoreline were there aren't crowds, but often are surfers, SUPers, and others on and in the water. It is most readily accessed utilizing the Malaga Cove trail. Free public parking is available (no parking from 9pm – 5am) next to the trailhead in a lot between Paseo Del Mar and Via Arroyo. For reference this lot is also next to the a PVP Unified School District office, and the Malaga Cove School. The lay of the land can be viewed from the gazebo at Roessler Point; the Palos Verdes Beach & Althetic Club's pool can be seen from there almost directly below. Follow the paved roadway/path down and around until the pavement ends, and continue on the trail. The last part involves scrambling up a powdery slope which begins along a path between the ground cover. GPS location estimation is bouncy, go up as far as you can. You might notice that the rocks are so light they seem almost like movie props. Both the rocks and the off-white powder are diatomaceous earth (it can get you messy, and there are guidelines for workers that handle it on a recurring basis.) A small towel or other ground cloth stand-in is handy if you want to perch on the slope ....as a side note, Butch Cassidy's Wild Bunch would feel at home.
