Not to long ago the City of Sioux City and its residents almost lost an important and historic city park Leif Erikson Park on the city's north side. The Sioux City Public School District wanted to obtain the park to build a new elementary school. After much discussion the park was saved and the school district found a different location for the new school This resolution was satisfactory for all involved.
The park still exists today and continues to serve the community with all of its amenities and features, even ones some people do not think about, such as hiding and searching for geocache's within the park boundaries..
The school district is in the process of building their new school a few blocks away from the Leif Erikson Park. Once it opens kids and their parents will have an even easier access to the park and everything it offers to the public.
To celebrate this good fortune and to demonstrate one more feature the Leif Erikson Park can offer a geocache has been placed here to help get people to come use the park.
