Eastern hemlock is also known as tree juniper, white hemlock and can live 300 to 400 years. Hemlock is used for bridges, planks, sills, boxes, crates, and general construction. In the late 1800's hemlock was a popular Christmas tree. This was short lived because the branches were not strong enough to hold ornaments.
