Geocache Description:

This is simple three stage letterbox multi cache and another in my "Church in the Wildwood Series" or "CitWW:", which may be a little challenging to figure, find or, who knows, maybe both. You might call these ones the 'abridged' versions!!! Patience, you'll see... Mwhahahaha!
Small country cemeteries are absolutely amazing to me! Visiting them, is like stepping back into another time. Very kewl!

Historic-ally...

The small Mount Hope Methodist Church on the sixteenth line of Peel Township (currently Mapleton Township) was one of a proliferation of churches in the township in the nineteenth century. It was located on the James Norris farm. After the amalgamation of the several Methodist sects, many of these tiny houses of worship disappeared. Mount Hope was one of these; it joined with the Methodist church at Alma (which became United following Church Union). Mount Hope Methodist was active until at least April 1902 based on a story printed in the Arthur Enterprise. The church building no longer exists. Only one partial headstone remained when transcriptions were recorded in 1985: It was that of ?????? Norris, son of Henry and Elizabeth, who died in 1858. The corners of the cemetery are marked by cement corner pillars, of which, only some remain.

Puzzl-ingly...

The remains of the cemetery is located at a working farm, as such, please be respectful of private property, no need to on to the field. All data gathering can be done from the road side. I have chatted with one of the owners, and let them know about geocaching and what it will entail. If anyone becomes intrusive, this geocache will be archived. Please act accordingly! NO NIGHT CACHING!!! Thx drdrkxz.

At the posted coords....

  • Count the remaining cement corner pillars. This is A.
  • Find the remaining headstone. It will be near one of these pillars near the roadway. What is the first name on the marker?
  • Using A=1, C=3, .... Z=26, sum of letter of first name on the marker. This is B.
  • On the north-most cement corner pillar by the roadway, there is a number of metal protrusions (i.e. staples) embedded into the post. Count them, now subtract one = C.
  • If there is a cross on the headstone D = 4, elseif there is praying hands on the headstone D = 3, elseif there is a flower on the headstone, then D = 8, else D=1.
  • E=B+1 and F=E-(C+D-A)
  • Calculate stage two with this formula: N 43 E.(A-C/A)(C)(D-A) W 080 F.(C)(D/2)(A-1)
  • See geochecker for final instruction to find the cache container.

Parking-ly...

Parking at the posted coords and at the final, the parking will be at road side, so please do so carefully, thoughtfully, and certainly safely.
