Geocache Description:

This is a series of twenty five (25) caches placed to highlight the Acadian Heritage in Colchester County. Visit the actual sites of ACADIAN Villages of Cobequid. Enjoy vistas little altered from the days when Acadian families dyked the marshes and harvested salt hay. Captain  Abijah Willard with an Acadian guide, map maker Thomas Lewis &100 New England troops traveled through this area. His 1755 diary is one of the best information sources for these communities.

12. Patameragouche  Willard ordered all male Acadians in this area to assemble at the Blanchard home, on August 15, 1755.  He informed them “they must go with me to fort cumberland”.  The women and children were left behind, no doubt aided by local Mi’kmaq.  It is believed they escaped to Île Saint-Jean (PEI), as did many other Acadians.  Almost the entire population of Cobequid avoided deportation in 1755 in this way. Many were removed from PEI by the British at a later date .

Several months later, on October 16, the 22 men from Tatamagouche were part of a group taken to South Carolina on the ship Two Brothers.

Cache is located 15 paces South in a Evergreen
