Hidden Hiking Trail #3
This hiking trail begins at Sandy Creek COE Park and goes all the way to Martin Dies Jr. State Park. The trail head is behind the restrooms at Sandy Creek Park on the "Old Folks" side near GC7AA0K. Until recently we had no idea this trail existed as we had never ventured behind the restrooms before, but there is a path behind the restrooms that leads back into the woods. There are some spectacular trees along this path, some of the largest we have ever seen. Southern magnolias, pines, and oaks that we believe to have been here for hundreds of years. While we hiked this trail we saw a few whitetail deer and were fortunate enough not to see any snakes but as always be cautious of the wildlife. One cache in this series will take you off the hiking trail toward the water where a hidden gem is placed perfectly at the edge of the water so you can take a break and look out over the lake.
We tried to get our coordinates as close as we could to where the caches down the trail were hidden, but because of dense tree cover they may need to be adjusted. If this is the case, please let us know and we will do what we can to ensure the coordinates are fixed.
The cache you are looking for is a small waterproof container by the bench in the woods.
