This cache is placed in memory of young lady who was tragically taken before her time. In the spring of 2015, she asked me to help her fulfill one of the requirements for the Duke of Edinburgh award – geocaching. I showed her how to read a gps, helped her select her geocaching code name (Squirt98), and we spent several hours combing through the woods to find a wide variety of geocaches. Despite her fears and her struggles with anxiety, she was determined to meet the requirements for her Duke award. The final task to meet this requirement, was to place a cache. We had many discussions about what type of cache to use, and where it would be placed. Unfortunately, before she was able to place it, she was killed in a tragic car accident on December 23, 2015 at the tender age of 17.
It is in her honor that this cache is placed – I wanted to ensure that I kept my promise to help her achieve this requirement for her Duke award.
Alyssa, you will always be remembered. This one’s for you, Squirt.
