Songimvelo Nature Reserve - Kromdraai camp. Traditional Cache

This cache is hidden just outside one of the entrances to the Songimvelo Nature Reserve, a 49,000 ha mountain sanctuary, administered by the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency. It is the largest provincial game reserve in South Africa. This entrance leads to the Kromdraai camp, 3km away, which boasts 50 log chalets. Unfortunately, the road goeas no further, but numerous walks can be made from the camp.

This camp was constucted in 1996 for the movie crew of the epic film 'The Ghost and the Darkness' staring Val Kilmer and Michael Douglas, about the man eating lions of Tsavo, Kenya. 1 km of railway track was laid nearby and a steam locomotive brought in by lowbed for the filming.

The cabins sleep six and are available to the public.
