Geocache Description:

This is a series of twenty five (25) caches placed to highlight the Acadian Heritage in Colchester County. Visit the actual sites of ACADIAN Villages of Cobequid. Enjoy vistas little altered from the days when Acadian families dyked the marshes and harvested salt hay. Captain  Abijah Willard with an Acadian guide, map maker Thomas Lewis &100 New England troops traveled through this area. His 1755 diary is one of the best information sources for these communities.

16. Village Aucoin  Members of the Aucoin family were living here by 1703.  Several families left to settle on Île Saint-Jean (PEI) before X, as did their priest, Father Girard. In this new home they were dependent on the French authorities for rations and many were in great need.  The British deported more than 3000 Acadians and French from PEI to France in 1758.

There were Acadian dykes on these marshlands and a grist mill on a nearby brook.

On the blue sign;Several families left to settle on Île Saint-Jean (PEI) before year X; Divide year X by 1000.

The final co-ordinates for the cache are N 45° 21.137' + X'  &  W 063° 18.460' - X'
