A virtual cache at the tomb of Robert Louis Stevenson in Samoa
At the end of the Ala o le alofa atop Mount Vaea is the final resting place of Robert Louis Stevenson (Tusitala). His grave bears the following poem.
Robert Louis Stevenson, 1850-1894
UNDER the wide and starry sky
Dig the grave and let me lie:
Glad did I live and gladly die,
And I laid me down with a will.
This be the verse you grave for me:
Here he lies were he long'd to be;
Home is the sailor, home form the sea,
And the hunter home from the hill.
Because of the puaa ai vao, moa ai vao, ma le tagata ai vao a cache here would become malepelepe. Because of this we had to make this cache a virtual one. The tomb of RLS has two quotations on it, one is his requiem listed above, the other, on the north side, is less widely known. To log this cache post a photo of your GPS receiver and the north side of the RLS tomb.
The best way to get to the cache is to go up the cross island road and park at the trailhead near Stevensons former home in Vailima, now the official head of State residence, follow the trail, not your GPS .
Manuia le caching!
