Leslie Science and Nature Center is a great place to learn and explore, but it used to look a little different here. In the early to mid 1800’s surveyors tromped across Michigan to lay out the township and range grid system. Surveyors were also taking notes on what the great state looked like— recording information on bodies of water, land formation, existing human-made trails, and vegetation. From these notes, maps were created, allowing current residents to take a glimpse into the recent natural history past.
Optional task: answer the question in the cache and explore the rest of the Leslie site! See if you can find similar vegetation nearby.
