Geocache Description:

PLEASE BRING TWEEZERS, pen and no spoiler in the log! Your log has to physically be on the logbook for me to accept it.

This cache is a simple 2-stage multi which should take 15 to 20 minutes to complete. Fun and suitable to do with children. It is part of the Church Micro Series... the largest series anywhere in the world! (by sadexploration, whom you should contact if you want to expand it → see bottom of description for more infos).

Gunnersbury Baptist Church is a large (spoiler alert) Baptist Church with a majestic atmosphere and beautiful windows. There has been a church here since 1877 and the building has an interesting history about which you can find out more on the church's website. There you will be able to read a document which sets out the Church’s establishment in 1877 and subsequent history until 1990s. This was lovingly researched and collated by a past member of the church, Doreen Heynes.

At the coordinates of the multi, you won't find any cache but the clues needed to complete the first stage of the multi.

Stage 1 - (at the given coordinates for the multi). At these coordinates, you should face a large stone laid by Miss Kent on the outside wall of the church.

  • i) You can read a famous Bible quote from Matthew 1A:14.
  • ii) Let D be the number of times the letter "E" appears in the first three lines on the stone.
  • iii) Find the second line from the bottom. Let E be the number of letters in the second word of this line.
  • iv) This stone was laid in the year 1H77.

For stage 2 and to learn more about how to calculate the final coordinates: see description of the second waypoint and of the final location. You can check if you calculate the final coordinates correctly by visiting geocheck.org. Once you find the final coordinates, it's a 5-minute walk to GZ.
