Geocache Description:

This is a 3 mile walk around the outskirts of Ottery St Mary, finishing in the centre by our historic church.

The route is predominantly on footpaths (which can be muddy during wet periods) and very quiet lanes. There is one crossing of a busy road so please be careful with children.

This is a series of 10 caches, which vary from easy to hard and one you may struggle to open!

Ottery St Mary has been described as 'A little piece of heaven’ surrounded by glorious countryside.

Ottery St Mary is one of the oldest and most historic towns in England, sheltered by rolling hills and surrounded by the picturesque villages of Alfington, Escot, Gosford, Fenny bridges, Fairmaile, Metcombe, Wiggaton and Tipton St John. It is said that William of Orange dined here in Ottery in 1688 on his way to London to claim the throne from James II.

Ottery St Mary has a few strange and interesting customs, varying from the world famous tar barrels to Pixie day. It is also well know for:

Its Historical and beautiful church.

The tumbling wear.

Being the birth place of the poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge.

A plane crash on the outskirts of the town, flying back from Spain in July 1980.

The great fire of Ottery in 1866.

Annual food festival.

This cache is a magnetic nano cache.
