Find the fairy cache hidden in this enchanted wood where you'll find the fairy tree. It is said that this area of the woods is special, and has a mystical history, so soak up the atmosphere.
There are many wonderous routes to get to this cache, each with its own beauty. Take the route from the deer park through the gnarly wooded trees/ or a circular route over the Ben of howth with its amazing views/ via the GAA / or down from the summit quarry / or around the right hand side loop from Aideens dolmen through haunting woods. Every time I go here ( which is often) I am surprised to see new amazing things including many of natures wonders, historical features, old walls and walkways, trees with strong branches which are great for kids to swing and climb on, and unfortunately, sometimes, evidence of campers leaving their debris behind.
Enjoy the enchanted fairy wonderland and perhaps visit some nearby caches with incredible views.
The cache
Look for the cache once you find the fairy tree, with the door at the bottom of the hollow, and look up to spot any flying fairies. Bring your own pencil to sign the log.
Please note that the Deer Park is on the grounds of the Howth Castle estate and public access relies on the consent of the property owner, and is not recommended after dark as people have gotten lost in the woods at night. Also, please avoid on Christmas Day as it is the only time the Castle gates and grounds are closed to the public (look up the Grace O'Mally legend for the interesting tale about that!)
