The top of the mountain can be reached by taking the trail to
the right of the dedication monument in the parking lot. About
three-fourths of the way up, the trail gets a little steeper and
slippery for a short distance. Small children will probably need
some assistance negotiating this portion. Near the top the trail
branches and gradually disappears in the rocks, but navigation is
relatively easy from there on. The climb is not too difficult...I
am 60+ years, overweight, and only had to stop about 5 times to
catch my breath. ;) Please watch the kids on the ascent and
descent.
The summit is a great place to explore with all of its geology
nooks, crannies and bowls. It has a fantastic view of the
surrounding area, so be sure to take a camera. It's also an ideal
place to enjoy lunch...peanut butter and jelly sandwiches taste so
much better up there! The local
deer frequent the top and there is an overabundance of small
lizards for the kids to enjoy. Don't forget that Wyoming is home to
the prairie rattlesnake. They have been seen
near the base of the mountain and on the golf course, so please
be careful.
Enjoy the area, and good luck on your hunt!
