Albourne Amble 1: The Post Box
The Albourne Amble series is a circuit around the villages of Albourne, Sayer’s Common and the west of Hurstpierpoint. It contains 25 caches and takes in a further three Church Micros, a Village Sign and one stand-alone cache. It is mostly on footpaths and bridlepaths, and there is one section along the pavement of the old A23 which is not too busy.
The walk consists of a mixture of micro and standard cache containers, plus a few unusual ones. Tweezers or a spike to extract a log may be useful, and you will need to use your general knowledge to get into a couple of caches. Please be careful extracting and replacing the logs. You will need to bring your own pen. The ground along Cutler’s Brook between nos 3 and 9 can be very muddy so I strongly recommend wellies or even waders. A little climbing and exploring may be needed in places, so you do this cache series at your own risk.
Recommended parking places are in the layby near no.1, or in Albourne or Sayer’s Common. The walk can easily be split into a northern and southern circuit. There is a shop in Sayer’s Common and several other refreshment places in Hurstpierpoint.
This cache is not at the published location. Read the sign on the front of the post box and look for the times of: the collection from the box Mondays to Friday (call it A) and on Saturday (call it B), from Cuckfield Road (call it C) and Burgess Hill (call it D). The cache will be found at N 50 56.1(B-D)(2xC) W 000 11.3C(A-B).
