#3 Chiesetta di Santa Maria dell'Ospedale
La chiesetta di Santa Maria dell’Ospedale, probabilmente di origine romanica, è dedicata alla Purificazione di Maria. La chiesa (con annesso ospedale) doveva probabilmente esistere già dal secolo XII ed è sicuramente attestata comunque nel 1218. Essa sorgeva sui pascoli della estesa terra incolta (Media Campanea) fruita comunitariamente dai Comuni della Valpolicella, ed era officiata da un gruppo di frati ospedalieri. L'ospedale decadde e sulla sua area nacque la villa della famiglia Quaranta ed una stazione di posta con alloggio. La chiesa agli inizi del '600 venne anche interamente affrescata con Storie della Passione di Cristo, da Paolo Ligozzi. Di grande effetto la scena che raffigura il Tribunale di Ponzio Pilato, ricca di cartigli tanto da sembrare un enorme fumetto. La pala d’altare, che rappresenta la Presentazione di Gesù Bambino al tempio, è attribuita a Paolo Moro.
Sotto il dominio veneto, ogni due febbraio, festa della Purificazione di Maria, il Vicario della Valpolicella si recava in questa chiesa per celebrarvi un rito solenne, durante il quale i fedeli potevano pregare davanti a una reliquia del velo della Beata Vergine. In Valpolicella la chiesetta di Santa Maria, risulta essere fin dall’età moderna il centro di devozione della Valle per la festa della Purificazione, celebrata il 2 febbraio e chiamata "Sagra de la Seriola".
Le prime notizie certe sulla Festa di Ospedaletto, risalgono alla dominazione Veneziana del 1400. La chiesa celebra, fin dal V secolo, la ricorrenza della presentazione al tempio di Gesù e della purificazione della Madonna con l’uso di portare in processione delle candele benedette durante la celebrazione liturgica, che vengono chiamate “della Ceriola”.
Da questo termine, in dialetto veronese deriva il nome di Sagra de la Seriola.

#3 Church of Santa Maria of the Hospital
The little church of Santa Maria dell’Ospedale is probably of Romanesque origin and it is dedicated to the Purification of Maria. The church (with an annexed hospital) probably existed since the twelfth century and is certainly attested in 1218. It stood on the pastures of the extensive unpaved land (“Media Campanea”), which was commonly used by the Municipalities of Valpolicella, and was officiated by a group of hospital friars. The hospital decayed and in its area was born the villa of the Quaranta family and a post office with accommodation. The church was also entirely frescoed with Stories of the Passion of Christ, by Paul Ligozzi at the beginning of the sixteenth century. Under Veneto dominion, every 2 February, festival of the purification of Maria, the Vicar of Valpolicella went to this church to celebrate a solemn rite, during which the worshippers could pray before a relic of the veil of the Blessed Virgin.
In Valpolicella, the church of Santa Maria, has been the center of devotion of the Valley for the celebration of the Purification, celebrated on 2 February and called Sagra de la Seriola. The first news on the Ospedaletto Festival dates back to the Venetian domination of 1400. From the 5th century, the church celebrates the recurrence of the presentation to the temple of Jesus and of the purification of the Virgin with the use of carrying on the procession of the blessed candles during the liturgical celebration, which are called "the Ceriola."
From this term, in Veronese dialect comes the name of Sagra de la Seriola.
