New retail stores are popping up all around us.
1913 Anna Albrecht opened a small food store in the mining
Town of Essen, Germany. By 1948 her sons took over the business.
1954 they opened their first self-service store, a first in Germany.
In 1960 the brothers split the business over a dispute whether
they should sell cigarettes. They both retained the store name with
adding a second name to separate them apart.
The store debut in Iowa in 1976.
You might be surprised to learn that there is a
sister store in the Hilltop area.
Some might say a “Trader”.
