Geocache Description:

This is part of an eight mile walk over varying terrain, dependant up the season the going will be muddy. Although no cattle were encountered whilst setting the route there are several fields that have had cows and horses in the past.

Leading up to and during World War Two Northamptonshire played host to 19 separate airfields and several other aviation installations, later Thor missiles were based in the county.

During the summer of 1940 a considerable number of relief runways were brought into service either to provide valuable airfield space for dispersal of operational aircraft or perhaps more numerously for Elementary and Service Flying Training Schools – situated to the south of the A428 between Brafield-on-the-Green and Denton – RAF Denton briefly came into existence.

Although only considered a landing ground with minimal services on the night 17/18 July 1941 a lone enemy aircraft dropped eight bombs on the edge of the field causing minimal damage

In July 1945 it was closed down, the land returned to farming; little remains of its war time use
