WRW #12A: (Previously!) Funny Gate

The cache, a small camo-taped screw-capped pot, is hidden close to this [once!] redundant gate along the Dales Way. I am not sure whether useless (?) gates like this are a feature of the Dales Way, but with two within the first mile, maybe they are!? Or maybe they do have a useful (but secret!) function . . .
Perhaps in your log you can indicate your chosen suitable word (from the many available) to describe the gate . . . and/or suggest a useful function for it!
See Gallery for a few more examples of such gates – apparently not uncommon.
To reach the cache location: park @ or near N 53 55.807 W 1 50.233 in the car park of the sports centre and follow the Dales Way footpath, which continues from the north-west corner of the car park, for some 120m to the cache location.
24/3/19 Update: the gate is not funny any more - it now has a normal gate function being having been recently attached to a newly installed fence! However this was washed over in the 16 March floods . . .
