WRW #13: Walkers Welcome!
The cache, a screw-capped, camo'ed, pre-form tube is hidden in the base of a small multi-stemmed tree just off a small 'Walker's Welcome' trail heading through this patch of woodland alongside the Wharfe.
This forms a preferable diversion from the main Dales Way path which simply heads across fields of sheep along this stretch.
To reach the cache location: park @ or near N 53 55.807 W 1 50.233 in the car park of the sports centre and follow the Dales Way footpath, which continues from the north-west corner of the car park, past the location of WRW #12 and then at N 53 55.836 W 1 50.433, instead of heading left along Dales Way, continue straight on and follow the small path alongside the river to the cache location.
On the northern bank of the river along this stretch is the Ilkley Golf Club where the famous golfer Colin Montgomerie learned to play. The club was established in 1890 and this course was completed in July 1898 - for the first few years the club's course was on Rombald's Moor above Ilkley.
