When Mr Jackson arrived at the school in 1953 to teach, the school had a roll of 31, two classrooms but only one teacher! As he had only taught Form 1 & 2 up until then his wife helped out each day by taking the little kids class for an hour each day so he could survive that first year. As my father and his 8 cheeky siblings were all at the school around that time I can only imagine how stressful that would of been. Eight Form 2 students moved on to high school and he was back to a managable 23 for the following year.
Many locals were surprised to see the school demolished in September 2014 as the school was supposed to go up for tender but no tenders were received or any knowledge when or where the tender was advertised. So a sad end for a proud school. All that remains today are the tennis courts near the corner and a short walk to the rear of where the school buildings stood you can see where the swimming pool dug out was.
No need to climb in agmonst the trees.
