On the corner of Booth Street and Marion Avenue once stood a Victorian-style home built by Augustus C. Freeman in 1903. At various times, Freeman served as City tax collector, a councilman, mayor, a DeSoto county commissioner, and was Sheriff of DeSoto County from 1905 to 1913 (Charlotte County was not formed until 1921). In 1985 the house was relocated to 639 East Hargreaves and later moved again to the corner of Cross Street (southbound U.S. 41) and Retta Esplanade in Punta Gorda where it is currently open as a museum and office for Charlotte County Chamber of Commerce. .
