Geocache Description:

A multi cache to celebrate Remembrance Day, and the sacrifice made by people the world over in defence of their country.

LEST WE FORGET

2017 marks the 100th anniversary of The Battle Of Beersheba, in modern day Israel - part of which involved a mounted infantry charge by the  Australian Mounted Division's 4th and 12th Light Horse Regiments.

Fought on 31 October 1917, The Battle Of Beersheba saw British and ANZAC troops attack the Yildrim Army Group Garrison comprising German and Turkish forces.

Late in the afternoon, after artillery bombardments and attacks by the ANZAC Mounted Division, the Australian Mounted Division, under Lieutenant General Sir Harry Chauvel (the first Australian to reach this rank), charged the enemy troops with bayonets.
The mounted charge was successful, culminating in a breach of the defensive trenches and the capture of the town and part of the withdrawing enemy garrison.  Amazingly, casualties suffered during the charge were relatively light for a World War I action, 35 killed and 39 wounded.

This action was the first in a series of offensives which culminated in the capture of Jerusalem less than two months later.

THE CACHE

The cache comprises two waypoints and Ground Zero (GZ). Stealth may be required at GZ, at some times.

Collect information from the plaques at the two waypoints in Carlingford Memorial Park, and calculate the location of GZ.  You may want to take a photo of the plaque at Waypoint 1 (ie the Published Coordinates) for easy reference - or later corrections.

GZ is within walking distance of the waypoints, but is further than I'd have liked due to the placement of other caches.
Please tuck the cache back into its hidey hole so it is not easily visible to the casual passer by. And please refrain from making comments in your logs re the area of GZ and it's distance / direction from the published coordinates.

Parking is available near the waypoints and GZ, and public transport (Carlingford Railway Station and Buses 513, 546 and M54) will get you within walking distance.
The actual terrain rating may be somewhat lower (1½-2) depending on what you do, but the listed rating is as per the guidelines. The difficulty rating represents a combination of the (simple?!) field puzzle and the physical hide.
