Geocache Description:

10.04.2021 ### Cache only accessible from North car park via Bute Street at present ## Continuing on the former Rosstown rail route from All Aboard Mr Bent, this cache is just north of the curve trail along Murrumbeena Crescent where the railway went in Murrumbeena Reserve on Kangaroo Road.

Here, there is the Bowls club, footy ground, and a new playground. In the playground is a Turntable and several sleepers - continuing on the railway theme

This is the second of 8 traditional caches, one mystery caches and one multi-cache in the Rosstown Railway Series as you travel westerly towards Elsternwick station.

  • All Aboard Mr Bent.
  • Rosstown Railway caches -1, 2, 3.
  • Locomotion
  • Princes Park Station
  • Rosstown Sugarbeet Mystery cache.
  • Platform 625.
  • Rosstown Multicache - Take a Ticket.

Destined never to be used but always a dream . William Murray Ross built the never to be used Rosstown Railway first in 1883 and then had to be redone in 1887-8 due to the shoddiness of the original build. It was to carry produce from his other failed venture in the area the sugar beet mill.( the Northern Queensland Sugar cane industry would have probably ended it time anyway. ) There was a lot of concern from the market gardeners in the area that his mill would use all the water supply available in the area. The railway fell into disrepair quickly as did the sugar beet mill. Carnegie was known as Rosstown until the early 1900's but its namesake hotel still stands on Dandenong Road in Carnegie North. The railway would have been useful in today's age as it would have linked the Dandenong Line /go under the Frankston Line and eventually meet Sandringham Line at Elsternwick.

Currently the controversial Skyrail is being built just north of here between Hughesdale and Caulfield station - Here is Murrumbeena station before the start of the construction. For the trainspotters !

You can continue along the Rail trail if you go down Thaxed or Henty Streets back to Murrumbeena Crescent once you have safely crossed Kangaroo Road - you can then head for Rosstown Railways Series #1 cache in Rosanna Street.

You are looking for a lunchbox container with swaps and log and pencil in a slightly exposed area - as works have commenced replacing the pavilion. - The cache can only be accessed from the north car park off Bute Street. But you better pretend to be looking at the building works as there may be muggle workers watching - and bowling club members passing GZ to get to their clubhouse.

FTF goes to sezzy2683.
