L’antica tonnara di Marzamemi ha origini che risalgono alla dominazione araba, intorno all’anno mille. Nel 1630, questa venne venduta dagli spagnoli al Principe di Villadorata,
I Nicolaci di Villadorata migliorarono ed ampliarono il complesso dell’antica tonnara, costruendo nuove abitazioni per i pescatori.
L’attività della tonnara di Marzamemi fu rilevante fino alla metà degli anni ’50. Oggi invece è meta ambita dei turisti.
la tonnara, risalente ai tempi degli arabi, profondamente rivista dal principe di Villadorata che costrui l’intero borgo, cosi come oggi lo conosciamo, intorno ad essa.
L’esterno conserva ancora l’antica struttura, segnata dal passare del tempo ma comunque ricca di fascino.
L’interno è visitabile e gli “Scieri” zona dove una volta venivano ricoverate le barche da pesca, adesso è stata trasformata nella ”Loggia”, una grande sala che conserva le antiche arcate i tufo, teatro di numerosi eventi privati e pubblici.
Vi consigliamo di visitarla nel tardo pomeriggio, al tramonto o alla sera… Illuminata, affacciata sul mare e sull’antico porticciolo dei pescatori, acquista un fascino indescrivibile.

The exterior still retains the ancient structure, marked by the passage of time but still rich in charm.
The interior is accessible and the "Scieri" area where fishing boats were once taken over, has now been transformed into the "Loggia", a large hall that preserves the ancient arches of the tuff, the theater of numerous private and public events.
We advise you to visit it in the late afternoon, at sunset or at evening ... Illuminated, overlooking the sea and the old fishermen's marina, you get an indescribable charm.
