Standing before you are the remains of a bygone era. This is a chassis of an 1885 P60 steam locomotive. It was one of 10 of its type built by Nasmyth,Wilson &Co in 1885. This particular train came into service July 6 1887, and its primary use was for hauling freight. It was retired March 31 1927. It was dumped at Branxholme Locomotive dump June 1927(near Invercargill),where it helped shore up riverbanks and stop erosion.
It was in 2004, that the Ohai Railway Board Heritage Trust salvaged these remains ,and here you will find the remains.
The undercarriage rests on the specially created mount at the southern entrance to the town of Lumsden.
