The cache is placed in the small town of Maltahöhe which is next to the Hudup River.
This river is one of the great arms of the mighty fish river which meanders through southern Namibia. It is mainly dry but after strong rainstorms runs with thundering noise. Unlike other dry rivers in Namibia, the Hudup river has water coils throughout the year and some fish species survive there the dry season, mainly freshwater barbel. The part of the river in Maltahöhe is mostly dry.
The name Hudup is a Nama word that means "flowing up" because the Hudup River flows in a easternly direction whilst you would expect all rivers in this area to flow down towards the coast in the west.
