Geocache Description:

This is my first Wherigo cartridge.  It is a tribute to my friends, Oldrocknmetal, who created the original cartridge. This Wherigo cache will take you on a Tour of the Western area of the park. You can drive to the first 6 zones but will need to hike to the last three (about 0.6 miles round trip hike).  Parking is nearby.

You can download your cartridge here LINK

In 1937, J.B. Starkey and three partners began buying the land known today as the J.B. Starkey Wilderness Park to use for cattle grazing. Over the nest 30 years, as the population grew and the forest were lost to development, Mr. Starkey approached the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) about public aquistion.

!n 1972, Mr. Starkey donated 250 acres of property to SWFWMD. Since then, SWFWMD has purchased about 8,000 acres from the Starkey family.

Sinc 1975, SWFWMD and Pasco county have worked together to develop long-range water supply goals and recreational opportunities for the property. On August 29, 1992 this park was opened to the public. Today this park provides a variety of passive recreation in a friendly environment. It also provides productive well sites that serves the regional area.  Please enjoy your visit and leave everything as you found it!
