It's Gord From Kingston!


The Tragically Hip, often referred to simply as The Hip, are a Canadian rock band from Kingston, Ontario. They have released 14 studio albums, two live albums, one EP, and 54 singles. Nine of their albums have reached No. 1 on the Canadian charts. They have received numerous Canadian music awards, including 16 Juno Awards. Following lead singer Gord Downie's diagnosis with terminal brain cancer in 2015, the band undertook a tour of Canada in support of their thirteenth album Man Machine Poem. The Man Machine Poem Tour's final concert, held at the Rogers K-Rock Centre in Kingston on August 20, 2016, was broadcast globally by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation as a cross-platform television, radio and internet streaming special.

Gord Downie passed away on October 17, 2017 bringing a nation to tears and music celebration.

On October 24, 2017, Rick Mercer paid tribute to Gord in one of his "rants". In the rant, he recalled, 17 years ago, when Gord called him to ask if he was pronouncing the name of Ilse Aux Morte, Newfoundland correctly as he planned to use it in a song on a new album. Rick suggested that Gord call his dad for a second opinion. The full rant is here , and one of the most memorable parts of the story is, when Rick's dad mentions.. "Your friend Gord called.." Rick told his dad, in part "dad, you realize who that is? That's Gord Downie; lead singer of The Tragically Hip; Canada's greates rock & roll band" His dad said "really?. he never meniotned that he was in a band. He just said that he was Gord, from Kingston."

Gord was a musical genious and will be missed by all.
