This is a virtual cache site best accessed on foot. By car this would be a 1/1.5 level cache. On foot at a very leisurely pace this walk takes about 8 hours.
The cache location is the only point on the route with a view of both the Swiss Alps and Lake Como. When covered on foot (about 10 miles), the suggested route will take most of a day and is moderately strenuous – especially the downhill portion. But it has to be one of the most beautiful one-day hikes in the world. Suggested route:
Starting in Argegno on Lake Como, take the funicular/cable car to Pigra
Hike to Alpi di Colonno – have a cappuccino or lunch break at the Refuge
Continue on the road toward the coordinates. Take in the breathtaking view of the Alps including Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn
Find the altitude number on the arched sign at the cache location
Walk down the stone and pavement path to Santa Maria del Soccorso (quite a steep decent - about 2100 feet in less than 3 miles) N 45 58.480/ E 009 10.645
Continue on to Lenno back on Lake Como.
