Geocache Description:

This is the 4th of 11 card game caches placed to commemorate the 2018 Waukesha Janboree’s theme this year of GAME ON! There's room in the cache for some swag & trackables. Bring your own pen.

Poker is one of the most well-known card games in the world. Mr. Hack1of2 has been playing it since he was a teenager and it continues to remain a favorite game to play at our family gatherings. Mrs. Hack1of2 has not been a fan of this game as it is essentially a gambling game. However, after over 30 years of marriage and witnessing tons of laughter she has finally crumbled and on occasion will join in on a small-stakes family game, but only if she has a listing of the rank of the cards in front of her and reminders on how each variation is played!! Another sister-in-law has also recently joined in under the same conditions. :-) We do have lots of fun and laughs when we play.

There are many different variations of poker, the main types being stud, draw, and community card games.

In “stud” games, players are dealt a number of cards (typically 5 or 7) and must use those original cards to make their best hand.

In “draw” games, the players may decide to trade in some of their cards (generally up to 3) in an effort to improve their hand.

In “community card” games, the players are dealt “hole cards” face down (cards that are uniquely theirs) then play off the community cards to make their best hand. What makes them “community cards?” The other players at the table also may play off them.

Play involves a combination of strategy, luck, and skill. All poker variants involve betting as an intrinsic part of play. Poker games vary in the number of cards dealt, the number of shared or "community" cards, the number of cards that remain hidden, and the betting procedures. One thing that most have in common is that you have to use your best five cards to make your hand. At “friendly” tables, the dealer often has the choice of deciding the type of game. More structured tournaments usually specify the format from the get-go.

THE OBJECT OF POKER
The object of poker is very simple – to win the money (or poker chips) in the center of the table, called the “pot.” With most variants of Poker, players make their bets or wagers on the belief they have the best hand or in the hopes they can bluff and make a player with a better hand give up, abdicating the pot to them.

Some of the most popular versions of Poker that you may encounter at your friendly dealer’s-choice poker game would include 5-card draw, 7-card stud, Texas Hold’em, Omaha, Follow the Queen, Baseball, Black Mariah, Guts, and Jacks or Better. We play most of those and many more!
