Az első világháború előtt 1913-ban kezdték meg az Ágyúgyár megépítését. A Krupp és Skoda művek segítségével létrejött gyár kiemelkedően korszerű volt, tökéletesen kielégítette a hadi igényeket: mozsarakat, tarackokat és lövegeket gyártott. Az itt elkészült hadiipari termékeket vízi úton akarták elszállítani, melyhez az Iparcsatorna tervei készültek.
Egymillió köbméter földet emeltek ki a két kikötővel tervezett, 2,5 km hosszúságú, 12 méteres alapszélességű, a védőtöltéseknél 32 méter széles csatornamedréből.
The construction of the Cannon Factory began before the First World War in 1913. The exceptionally modern factory, which was created by the support oy the Krupp and Skoda companies, perfectly satisfied with the military needs: made mortars, howitzer and guns. The Industrial Channel was planned to transport the military products that were produced here by waterway.
One million cubic meters of soil were excavated from the 2.5-kilometer-long basin with 12-meter width canal basin and 32-meter width between the dams, which was planned with two harbors.
Az első világháború miatti zavaros állapotok és a kedvezőtlen gazdasági viszonyok meggátolták a munkálatok befejezését. A tervezettekből csak a csatorna védőtöltése, az ágyúgyári rakodó és a bécs–budai út hídja készült el. Az így kialakított csatorna egy zárt medencét képezett, amelybe a Dunáról a hajók nem juthattak be. A trianoni döntéssel elszakított komáromi kikötőt pótolni kellett, így 1925-ben újból napirendre került a győri Iparcsatorna kérdése. 1926 őszén újból beindultak a munkálatok.1927 őszére elkészült az Iparcsatorna torkolatai csatornája a Mosoni-Duna felé az előkikötővel, ezzel megoldódott a szállítás az ipartelepek üzemeiből a Mosoni-Dunára.
The confusion of the First World War and the disadvantageous economic conditions prevented the completion of the works. Only the dam, the dock of the Cannon Factory and the bridge of the road Vienna-Buda were completed. The channel itself formed a closed basin, which the ships could not reach from the Danube. The harbor of Komárom, which was lost due to the Trianon decision, had to be replaced, so in 1925 the building of the Industrial channel in Győr was again on the agenda. In the autumn of 1926 the works started again. The Industrial Channel with the second port, the firth channel at the Danube was completed in 1927, and so the transport from the industrial plants to the Moson-Danube was solved.
