Civic Square
Wellington Civic Square is a public open space close to the waterfront and a short walk from the 'Golden Mile' - the main shopping area in central Wellington. The square was developed over a period of five years from 1987 to 1992, and involved the construction of a new library, conversion of the old library into the City Art Gallery, extension and refurbishment of the City Council buildings, earthquake strengethening and refurbishment of the old Town Hall, Today it is used for public events and is a popular place for local office workers to eat their lunch.
The posted coordinates take you to a place roughly central to the square, and approximately below the point where Neil Dawsons dramatic 'Ferns' sculpture hung mysteriously. Sadly, the weather took its toll on the original aluminium sculpture and it was taken down in 2015. A replacement sculpture in stainless steel is being commissioned, and at the time of posting funds are being raised to cover the $200,000 cost.

Take a walk around the square and identify the waypoints from the cryptic descriptions below. Some are in the square, some lie just outside. Once you've found the waypoints find a place that is the listed distance from each one. That's where you should find the cache.

All measurements were taken with GPS, so expect an accuracy no better than +/- 3m. The buildings surrounding the square also degrade the accuracy.
The small print
This cache replaces GCVFNW.
When placed it contained only a log book - please bring your own writing stick. Tweezers might also be useful.
Ensure everyone who logs a find has signed the log, or that their team name is clearly identified in their log entry. Log entries that do not match the physical log may be deleted. Photo logs will not be accepted. If you can't sign the log because of a problem with the cache please log a maintenance request.
Ensure that the cache is replaced exactly where and how you found it. We don't want it to be muggled.
