Geocache Description:

This cache is a part fo the Hope Valley Series.

There seemed to be a lot of Mystery Caches in this area, so we decided to try to even up the ratio a bit by placing this traditional cache. After taking up .Geocaching a while ago I found it amazing how your view of the world changed. As well as observing the beauty around the place there were also the ever present questions “Is there a Cache there?” or “Can I hide a cache there?”

Planning this series, I saw a gap in the series and suddenly inspiration hit me, and this cache was born.

However it also prompted some research and comparison between the modern sport/hobby/game of geocaching and croquet.

Croquet

A description of the modern game of Croquet is defined by the set of rules registered by Isaac Spratt in November 1856. Modern croquet is described as “A play in which the ball is struck with a mallet through an iron ring".

It is an ancient game that gets you outdoors, requires skill, teamwork and a level of strategy and thought.

Geocaching

Is an outdoor recreational activity, in which participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver or mobile device and other navigational techniques to hide and seek containers, called "geocaches" or "caches", at specific locations marked by coordinates all over the world. Although I like one of the more crass definitions:- A game where people use multibillion dollar satellites to find Tupperware in a forest.

This activity also gets you outdoors, requires skill, thought and can also require teamwork.

So as you can see there are similarities but also some significant differences.

Hope you enjoy the hunt for a camouflaged container. Log and pencil only.
