Geocache Description:

A lovely stroll along the beach front between Hollywood Beach and Beverly Beach brings you to ground zero with several information boards
A picturesque spot looking out over the ocean.

COASTAL EROSION Coastal erosion is the wearing away of land and the removal of beach or sand sediments.
Wave action, tidal currents ,waves generated by storms, winds and sea craft moving fast can all cause coastal erosion. This may take the form of long term loss of sediments and rocks or merely short term redistribution of coastal sediments . Coastal transportation of sediment ,usually sand along and out to sea, where it is deposited is determined by winds and water currents .This occurs between the high water mark and the general body of water . Swash is a term used to describe the movement of sand washed up the beach and back wash is term used when sand is washed back into the sea . Constructive waves move more large amounts of material up the beach Destructive waves move materials down the beach .
Here the coastline is exposed to severe weather conditions at time ,storms, high seas and strong winds .
Stable sand dunes play an important part in protecting the coastline from erosion. They act as a buffer against wind damage during storms, protecting the land from salt water intrusion . The sand barrier allows the development of a more sound plant community which holds the sands and sediments together . Frontal sand dunes are vulnerable. The vegetation can be destroyed by natural causes such as storms, hurricanes or by human intervention, such as clearing away ,grazing or excessive vehicle or foot traffic . If vegetation is lost ,winds may cause erosion and lead to coastal erosion

Information used for research of this cache was from
1-Information sign at gz supplied by the Florida Dept. of Environmental Protection
2 (visit link)
3 (visit link)
4- own observation at gz.

To log this cache You must forward me the answers to below questions
It is ok to log cache once you have done this.

Q1 How has man allowed you to access the beach from here without causing erosion to the dunes.
Q2 What plant or plants are used here to stabilize the dunes .
Q3 How do sand dunes protect the coast from erosion.
Q4 As you walk to ground zero along path way are you able to observe sand on road or on footpath
If so, is it by the sand dunes or slightly further away where there are no dunes .
Give reason why it could be there and if you think dunes are effective in combating erosion .

We hope you have enjoyed your stroll to ground zero as much as we did while we vacationed here

Congratulations to Africacher on a FTF
