Geocache Description:

Important Update

A number of waypoints for this cache have gone missing and I won't be replacing them. As a result, this cache cannot be completed so do DO NOT START IT. I'm leaving it in play for now so that one cacher, who has had multiple visits, can reach GZ and sign the log. The cache will then be archived.

Whodunnit?

This cache is not at the published coordinates.

Step back in time. It's the early 19th Century in dreary London, England. Life is hard and crime is rampant.

Fagin, (You've got to pick a pocket or two!), and his merry band of child felons rule the streets and alley ways of London stealing whatever their grubby little hands can acquire: a silk handherchief here, a wallet there, a gold watch if they're lucky!

One day, an artefact "falls" into Fagin's possession. He's not sure of its importance but he squirrels it away to keep it for himself just in case it is of great value.

Soon enough, Fagin is caught and, in all the confusion, he manages to grab his precious artefact and hide it upon his person. Few people know that Fagin was actually transported to the penal colony of New South Wales to serve out his sentence.

After doing his time, Fagin is granted his Ticket-Of-Leave and therefore his freedom. He retreats to a location to the north-west of the colony where he builds a beautiful cottage he calls Netherby Homestead, to live out a quiet and reclusive life. He alters his name slightly to try to disguise his identity. He keeps his precious artefact safe but news of its existence is spreading around the Hills and more and more people are learning of its powers.

Newsflash!

Netherby Homestead has had a break in and someone has absconded with Fagan's precious artefact. It is believed that the artefact holds amazing puzzle cache solving powers and suspicions have fallen on a band of desperado GPS hunters known to roam these parts in search of camouflaged treasure. What is this artefact and who has taken it???

As you are the most famous detective of all, Fagan has commisioned you to solve this dastardly crime and discover Whodunnit! You must utilise the services of a number of other famous detectives to track down the culprit responsible for the theft and to locate the hiding place of the precious artefact. It is said that whoever can identify the artefact and manages to inscribe their mark on the Detective Roll of Honour, then says the puzzle chant aloud, three times, will have marvellous mysterious puzzle solving powers bestowed upon them. Believe it or not!!!

OK Sherlock, it's time to get out your magnifying glass, grab your pipe then don your deerstalker hat and Inverness Cape to begin your investigations.

Before you leave home, you'll need to discover the whereabouts of a statue, here in Australia, that commemorates the creator of the Fagin character. A short internet search should reveal that. Why is there a statue of this person in Australia? All will be revealed shortly. After determining the coordinates of the statue, enter them into GeoCheck below where, if you are correct, further instructions will be given. You will need some tools out in the field for this one too. What you need will become clearer when you get the green light from GeoCheck.

GeoCheck.org

Once you're armed with the tools, you'll then need to visit the scene of this dastardly crime, the fabulous Fagan Park, to continue your investigations.

After visiting the seven waypoints, enter the letter/number string you'll discover into Certitude below where the final cache GZ coordinates will be revealed.

Good luck!!

You can validate your puzzle solution with certitude.

Fagan Park can be accessed either from the main entrance off Arcadia Rd or via the Carrs Rd entrance. It is open every day, (except Christmas Day), between 7am and sunset (Eastern Standard Time) or 7am to 6:30pm (Daylight Saving Time). Onsite parking costs $6 per vehicle. Unfortunately, council has now erected No Parking/No Stopping signs at the Arcadia Rd entrance so you are unable to park outside and simply walk in from there. You can still park outside the Carrs Rd entrance and walk in. Make sure you park parallel to the road as angle parked cars have been booked for parking incorrectly.
