This was to be a challenge cache. Unfortunately there was a divide between the reviewer's and my interpretation of and meaning of "guideline". Alas, one is not even allowed to put the word challenge in the cache title of any cache that is not a by the books challenge. Thank goodness for the Thesaurus ...
The initial intent was to create a "challenge" that would be unique and personal to the individual cacher. The idea was inspired by the fact that some of my most memorable moments in caching have come from achieving some obscure, yet, attainable personal goal.
Combine this with the fact that today's challenge caches are not that challenging ... just saying ... I thought why not plan a hide based on experience. In fact, I will go on record and state that most of today's challenge caches are simply traditional caches (cache is at the posted) with conditions. Conditions that, if you keep caching, will eventually lead to a green check mark indicating that you have qualified.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy getting the green check mark and smiley just as much as the next cacher. Also I am not saying that qualifying for a cache cannot be challenging, I just think there is a significant difference between qualifying and challenging. Who knows maybe there is scope for a new icon - the Qualifying Cache ...
Originally billed as a personal challenge cache, all that was required to claim the find was for the cacher to set and achieve a personal caching goal. That goal could be as easy (and subject to ridicule) or as difficult as the cacher wanted it to be. Also, as part of the ask it was suggested that cachers only use finds after the date this cache was published. All in hope that it might inspire others to try it, cachers were encouraged to publish their challenge requirements.
If you were wondering how I was going to check that the cacher did as was claimed - I was simply going to trust their word.
Again some of my most satisfying moments have come from achieving a personal goal. To name a few:
Found 100+ caches in 2 days so I could make my 1000th find on my 100th day of caching;
100 days later made my 2000th find and discovered my 200th travel bug;
While on a daily streak I opted to prove how balanced a cacher I was. I found 100+ Mystery Caches to qualify for a local well balanced cacher cache;
During that same streak I tried it again. This time with 100+ Restin’ (that is restin’ with an apostrophe) caches before finding any other cache by any other name. I actually failed my first attempt at this logging a Restin (that is restin without an apostrophe) on day 2;
Achieved my 6000 find the same day that mAn_eYe made his 1000th find. Not so challenging you say! It happened while we were both on a streak. Not so challenging you say! Did I mention he wanted to make his 1000th find on the 100th day of his streak? Not so challenging you say! OK, How about this, he was 100+ caches shy of his goal and I was 700+ caches short. That’s what made this a challenge. With careful coordination I caught up with him and two days prior to the milestone we were both at our respective ‘98’; and
I am not alone, during GAG25, a cacher, who will remain nameless, and I decide to go and get them all in the 24 hours before the event – we did.
Any ways, I am sure you get the idea. So without challenging you I summons you to contest and give it a try … or not ...
