Geocache Description:

Similar to the “ Big Cut “ downstream, this is just one of several natural falls along the canal that the engineers took advantage of. This is the first “cut” after leaving the head Gates at Tumalo Creek on it’s way to Tumalo reservoir.

The Columbia Southern Canal named for the Columbia Southern Irrigation Company was built just over 100 years ago. The company constructed the main canal to feed the Tumalo reservoir.

The Tumalo reservoir failed after it was filled in 1915. Due to the high cost of repairs the project was abandoned and the canal was never used again.
