Hanoi Letterbox Letterbox Hybrid

This cache has been archived.

GoaßnToni: Due to rising concerns about the Covid-19 pandemic, i removed the cache.

The cache location was within a very densly populated area, and so i don´t want to encurage anyone to go there at the moment.

I will revisit the situation after the pandemic has ended and replace the cache. But honestly... this will take some months.

Play safe & stay healthy

Geocache Description:

Hanoi Letterbox

This letterbox is located in the very heart of the Hanoi Old Quarter between the old Imperial Citadel of Thăng Long and the Red River (Sông Hồng).
The Old Quarter is one of the oldest parts of Hanoi, it was founded during the Lý and Trần Dynasties somewhere between 1000 and 1200. It is also known as "the 36 streets" after the 36 streets, that make up the Old Quarter. Each steet was specialized in one particular trade, with partly is still the case today. Some of the streets are even named after the products that were manufactures there, like the street the cache is located is named, the street of bricks (Ngõ Gạch). If you are there on Friday to Sunday evening, you can simply follow the street from the cache to the west for a few meters, and you will find the night market. Like on most of these markets you can buy a lot of fake chinese stuff, but in between you will also find some great examples of the craftsmanship of the people there, like woodcarvings of fine paper works.

Now to the cache: You will find the logbook at the entrance of the "hanoi Boutique hotel". There is no need to enter the hotel. You will find it outside on the left hand side (if you are looking from the street to the hotel), at the fire hose socket. The people from the hotel should know about it, we showed them how the game works. If there is any problem with the staff, be honest to them, and tell them they should talk to Amy, who gave us the permisson to place the cache and will take care of it, till we return to Hanoi.

To get to the place i would highly recommend you to go there by foot. During times of the nightmarket the street is closed for cars, and all the streets are pretty narrow in general. The locals are using motorcyles, but the traffic is crazy there, so i wouldn´t try this.
