Seeing as how there is not a highway sign directing drivers to this historical site I thought at least a few geocachers would pay a visit.
This area is rich in Texas history. Especially from a German perspective. The original 4428 acre Nassau Plantation was located near the site of this marker. Since the German society that bought the land originally (in 1843) did not want to colonize on this spot (worried the locals would damage the German heritage) they made it into a farm. A working plantation was developed and named for Duke Adolph of Nassau, protector of the German emmigation society, Adelsverein. The farm was used only as a pleasure retreat for the Adelsverein officers and as a hideaway from their creditors.
