Par Beach did not exist in medieval times - when the famous Priory at nearby Tywardreath was built around 1150 AD and flourished for 400 years, the whole area where the village of Par now stands was tidal.

Boats and barges could travel up creeks as far as St Blazey, Ponts Mill, Treesmill and Tywardreath.

By walking around the area you can still see the original high water line created by cliffs and natural ground elevation that marked the boundaries of this amazing foreshore.

With the coming of mining in the high ground above Tywardreath in the 18th and 19th centuries the original creeks became silted up, and further industrialisation associated with the railways and local harbours resulted in the original tidal landscape draining and drying out.

Par Village, the nearby running track and the dunes and ponds associated with the modern Par Beach are all sitting on previously tidal areas.

Par Beach is now home to a Nature Reserve which provides an environment for some unusual flora and fauna and is cared for by a volunteer group - The Friends of Par Beach.

The ponds in particular are home to a large number and variety of ducks, geese, swans and sea birds.

If you park at the given parking location your walk to the cache can take you along the many paths through the dunes or along the road serving the nearby holiday complex close to the largest pond.

This is a dog friendly area and Par Beach itself is open for dogs all year round.

The cache is a fun hide on a short section of the South West Coast path that diverts around the nearby China Clay Works.

The cache is a 10 cm by 2.5 cm tube - you may need tweezers.
