Geocache Description:

Awarua Satellite Ground Station, a civilian satellite Earth observation site managed by Space Operations New Zealand Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Southland Regional Development Agency.


The station was initially built in 2008 with the French Space Agency for the European Space Agency’s Ariane 5 ATV campaigns. The station was expanded with second antenna and radome in 2015 as a result from Planet Labs contract for the site. Awarua is now also the home for ESOC, SpaceFlight and others’ equipment. Three antenna radomes, number of directional antennas and equipment and personnel accommodation building are visible on the site.

The access to the station is via Colyer Road and the access road to the site follows public Awarua Siding Road line. The cache is meant to be hidden and please leave it better than it was.
